Makeup | COVERGIRL Vitalist Elixir Shade 610 & Melting Pout 105 Gel-Ful Review

17:03 Jayyangg 0 Comments

COVERGIRL Vitalist Elixir Shade 610 Classic Ivory
Price: ~$12 CAD
Finally a hydrating, vitamin-infused formula for beautiful, buildable coverage that glides on smoothly for a flawless look. A special antioxidant and vitamin complex plus SPF 20 work together to make your skin look healthy all day. Give your skin a luminous glow. Available in multiple shades from light to deep.
  • Packaging: Love the pump! Very easy to dispense product, but the clear cap makes everything look very dirty haha
  • Finish: Semi-matte
  • Formula: Felt a little thick and was a little streaky. For those who have combo-oily skin, this will not last long on you. Many foundations are okay after I blot when I get a little shiny but this completely transferred off onto the blotting sheet or wherever I accidentally rubbed lol. It did feel slightly hydrating.
  • Others said it broke them out but it didn't for me
  • Longevity: My skin isn't very oily but it broke up around my nose after 3-4 hours.
  • Perhaps just not the right formula for me. Most foundations that feel heavier tend to last long. However this one did not- probably due to the fact it isn't meant to control oil.
  • Recommend: Normal to dry skin.
PROS:
  • Medium buildable coverage
  • Semi-matte finish
  • SPF 20
  • Antioxidant and vitamin complex
  • Good Shade Range
  • Pump
  • Good shade match for NC20-25
  • Slightly Hydrating
CONS:
  • Not good for combo-oily skin
  • Wasn't the easiest to blend out
  • Not very long lasting for combo skin (I'm not even very oily...) - oily skin girls may want to avoid.

Rating: 7/10

(Left side is swatch of foundation; Right side is liquid lipstick)
Melting Pout 105 Gel-Ful
Price: ~$8 CAD
If you want color so hot, it's melted, this is the lipstick for you! New Melting Pout Liquid Lipsticks give you a high-impact, super rich color with a lightweight, satin finish. Melting Pout lipsticks give you Intensely rich color in a gel-based formula for a smooth finish
  • Packaging: Squeezey tube with a rounded sponge at the tip
  • Finish: Semi Matte - Light/medium pink with a hint of peach
  • Formula:  Interesting and odd product. It does indeed feel as if you had melted a lipstick and put it in a tube. However, for these semi-matte, mousse-y/velvety products, I'm more used to it "setting," but it doesn't really. It is indeed light weight, but this particular color is a bit light on my lips and appears patchy. Additionally, not very long lasting as it transfers easily because it never really "sets."  It wasn't as drying as other liquid lipsticks, but did make my lips peel at the end of the day. Formula wise, very similar to the Armani Lip Maestros.
PROS:
  • Light
  • Slightly moisturizing/not as dry as other liquid lipsticks
  • Pretty universal shade
  • The formula feels like a possible dupe for Armani Lip Maestros for a fraction of the price.
CONS:
  • This particular shade was patchy
  • Not long wearing
  • Transfers easily

Makeup | BECCA Holiday Après Ski Glow Collection: Eye Lights Palette Review

13:22 Jayyangg 0 Comments

Price: $54 CAD

What it is: A palette features seven shades and two luxe finishes: satin-matte and high-shine.
What it does: Put your eyes in the spotlight with this limited-edition eyeshadow palette featuring the bestselling Shimmering Skin Perfector Highlighter formula customized specifically for the eyes. These exclusive pairings allow you to dial up or down the lights to create a customized light effect for all skin tones and eye colors.
This set contains:- 0.05 oz/ 1.4 g Eyeshadows in Pearl, Rose Quartz, Moonstone, Opal, Topaz, Toasted Marshmallow, and Hot Cocoa
Starting from Darkest Shade Counter Clockwise: Hot Cocoa, Toasted Marshmellow, Topaz, Moonstone, Opal, Rose Quartz, Pearl (in the middle)

(Indoor lighting)
R-L : Pearl, Rose Quartz, Opal, Moonstone, Topaz, Toasted Marshmallow, Hot Cocoa
(Directly sun lighting)
R-L : Pearl, Rose Quartz, Opal, Moonstone, Topaz, Toasted Marshmallow, Hot Cocoa

  • Formula: Eyeshadows are creamy but very powdery in general. The Light shades are particularly more powdery and therefore were hard to build. Definitely need a primer underneath when using this product. Perhaps best for a more light, natural look.
    • Rating: 7/10
  • Palette: Colors at a glance are very beautiful. However, once you start playing with it, you notice that you don't have a lot of choices when it comes to medium/darker shades. Therefore, I found it very hard to come up with versatile looks and always went back to the 1 or 2 looks I could come up with. This is mainly due to the fact that out of the 7 shades, you have 4 that are shades of white/ivory with either a more neutral, yellow, or pink undertone. The darker shades, especially Hot Cocoa and Toasted Marshmellow, looked really flattering on the eyes. Additionally, there are only 2 finishes: satin-matte and high-shine which again, on the lids didn't make a big enough difference for the palette to be versatile.
    • Rating: 7/10
  • Generally, a little disappointed with this palette as the formula for BECCA's highlighters are so good. I just wished that translated to the eyeshadows as well.
PROS:
  • Beautiful medium-dark colours
  • Packaging is beautiful
CONS:
  • Packaging leaves a lot of fingerprints
  • Only 2 finishes that are both sparkly/shiny (Satin-Matte, High-Shine)
  • Powdery
  • Not very buildable
  • Not versatile
  • Too many light shades that look almost the same - not enough darker shades
  • Price

Makeup | Early Fall Copper Orange Makeup Tutorial

21:25 Jayyangg 0 Comments

Hey, guys!

It's that awkward season where you want to start wearing your sweaters but you just can't yet! This video I'm going to show you my go to "pre-fall" makeup that's centered around warmer copper, orange eyes + orange lips. Here I give you 2 options: lip tint balm for a more natural look or an opaque lip color for an evening look. As mentioned in the video, later  around October I'll be uploading a vampy, darker berry lip tutorial so keep an eye out for that!
Listed below are the products I used :)

Key Tip: Figure out what your main focus of the look is and base everything else around its undertone. Here it's the orange lipstick with a yellow undertone. Therefore, I make sure that my eyeshadow also has a yellowy base (BR403 from Etude house is a sandy beige!) This help make everything look cohesive :D

I would love to hear your feed back through comments down below or on the video!

Look 1: Every-day

Look 2: Evening

Makeup Used:

Base:

  • Cezanne Make Keep Base
  • Bourjois Healthy Mix in 53 + Revlon Colorstay Foundation

Sun Care | COOLA Makeup Setting Spray & Body Sunscreen Spray SPF 30 Review

13:18 Jayyangg 0 Comments

Hi Guys!

COOLA's a really amazing brand that recently launched in Canada! What's really interesting is that their formulas are known to be 70% organic which is an amazing feature to boast. Their products are developed using as many ingredients as possible that are natural, organic, sustainable and locally sourced. Additionally,  each of their products protects and nourish the skin with vitamins and age-defying antioxidants like strawberry, lemon oil, aloe, algae, orange fruit extract etc. It's kind of like sun care + skin care in one!

A lesson I took away from interning at the company Well.ca over the summer is that it's important to consume healthy products, but also just as important to use healthy products on the skin as well - after all, the skin is our largest organ!

---> Although the summer is over, it doesn't mean you stop applying sunscreen. If you haven't already read about UVA/UVB rays and what type of damage the sun can do, Read it here and here

Use the code: " JAY20 " for 20% off  Coolasuncare.ca from September 11th, 2017 - September 18th, 2017.

**I'm super thankful for COOLA for sending me these products to review! I do not get compensated for reviewing or if you use the discount link. All my thoughts are my own and honest opinions about the product.

Description
Makeup meltdown and UV exposure have met their match! Introducing SPF 30 Makeup Setting Spray from COOLA to contain 70%+ organic ingredients.

A weightless, matte finish mist protects the sensitive skin of your face while keeping your makeup looking fresh all day. This highly advanced formula includes both Cucumber and Aloe Vera Extracts to help soothe and refresh skin; and Hyaluronic Acid, known to bind moisture and help soften, tone and rehydrate skin. Protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays with broad spectrum SPF 30 protection.
Protect as you set!

Certified Organic Ingredients
  • Alcohol
  • Aloe Leaf Extract
  • Algae Extract
  • Glycerin
  • Orange Water
  • Cucumber Fruit Extract
Active Ingredients
Avobenzone (sunscreen) 2.1%, Homosalate (sunscreen) 3.5%, Octinoxate (sunscreen) 3.5%, Octisalate (sunscreen) 2.8%

Inactive Ingredients
Alcohol*, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract*, Isodecyl Neopentanoate, Silica Silylate, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Povidone, Fragrance/Parfum (Green Tea), Glycerin*, Water/Aqua/Eau, Algae Extract*, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract*, Sodium Hyaluronate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract*
*certifed organic
They recommend that you apply it to your hand and then apply it to your face - however, that doesn't make sense since its a "setting spray?" A second look on their website revealed a contradictory comment where they say to just spray on face with eyes closed....So I would suggest to just do what you're comfortable with.
  • Price: $51
  • The mist is really nice - doesn't give you water droplets on your face. However, there's a lot of alcohol in the product (No.1 on the ingredients list, however, it's...organic? I didn't know alcohol could be organic lol) which you can smell when you spray it. But that allows the product to evaporate very quickly once sprayed and not leave much of a residue. I recommend closing your eyes and tucking your lips in. The alcohol slightly burns my lips if I don't tuck them away and would definitely sting my eyes (this is probably why they said not to directly spray onto face).
  • It smells a bit weird, not a fan of the "green tea" scent.
  • It has a gel like texture and doesn't disturb my makeup. Once it evaporates it feels very nice on the face! It leaves a slight hydration feeling and a matte finish which is really nice for touch-ups!
  • It's a great touch up product throughout the day but doesn't seem to really prolong the wear of my makeup.
Overall really enjoyed the product aside from the "green tea" scent and alcohol. If you get past those 2 things, I would highly recommend this product! A really great option if you're looking for a way to reapply SPF over your makeup and not having the sunscreen sheen. The size is also super portable and easy to take out if you find yourself out in the sun for a few hours. My only wish is that this was SPF 50 and it prolonged my makeup like a setting spray does.

PROS:

  • Really doesn't disturb your makeup underneath - great way to touch up on SPF
  • Moisturizing
  • Matte finish
  • SPF 30 UVA/UVB
  • Skincare like ingredients (Algae, Cucumber Fruit Extract, Orange fruit water etc)
CONS:
  • Green Tea smell (personal)
  • Alcohol content
  • Price ($51 CAD)

  • Price $49
  • When you spray, it leaves a clear sheen onto the body and then gets absorbed pretty quickly. It starts off looking wet but then feels like there's something on my skin but not the usual sunscreen oiliness. It's not super tacky and greasy like normal sunscreen, instead, it leaves my skin feeling a quite moisturized. This feeling goes away progressively until the product is fully absorbed and it doesn't feel like I'm wearing anything at all
  • There's definitely a very distinct alcohol smell,  that is masked with the citrus smell. However, it quickly evaporates and smells like nothing.
Overall, I surprisingly really enjoyed this body one. It definitely has an interesting finish that is super tolerable compared to other invisible dry finish sunscreens like the Vichy and La Roch Posay sprays. I will for sure use this going out as my boyfriend has much less tolerable to sunscreens... this maybe one of the few ones he's going to be willing to use 8D (you know its good when guys are gonna be okay with it lol ).

PROS:
  • Moisturizing
  • Absorbed into nothingness!
  • SPF 30 UVA/UVB
  • 70% organic ingredients
  • Skincare like ingredients (Algae, Aloe, Citrus Limon Peel Oil, Cucumber Fruit Extract, Strawberry Fruit Extract etc)
CONS:
  • Alcohol
  • Price: $49 CAD

I'm super excited to have been sent the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream! I remember first seeing this product adored by Emily Noel on youtube as Beauty Broadcast. Delivers 7 Products, All in One:
  1. Full Coverage Foundation
    1. Medium buildable
  2. SPF 50 UVA/UVB Physical Sunscreen
    1. Yes
  3. Brightening Colour Correcting
    1. Brightening is hard to tell since my shade is way too light LOL Colour Correcting is also difficult as I don't have any red patches to correct.
  4. Hydrating Anti-Aging Serum
    1. Yes very hydrating and full of anti aging products like snail secretion
  5. Poreless Finish Primer
    1. Definitely will not make them disappear, but does make them seem not as obvious.
  6. Dark Spot Concealer
    1. Medium buildable coverage - would not use this as concealer for major blemishes, but if you have slight hyper pigmentation this should be enough.
  7. Moisturizing Day Cream
    1. Would not use this to replace my moisturizer, but I guess if your skin isn't too dry you could potentially skip moisturizer.
It Cosmetics was developed with plastic surgeons, very similar background to how the BB Cream came to be. Additionally, with a little search I found that this CC cream is actually made in Korea! This would explain the ingredient list and ingredients. The second ingredient is Snail Secretion, which is commonly used in Korean skincare and known for its anti-aging and skin rejuvenation properties. I find that it has a very similar consistency like the Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream, however that one has a bit better against oily skin + not as high coverage.
Love the packaging: Yay for Pumps! Also, super travel-friendly

Swatch of the shade It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream in Fair against NC30 (my hand looks so tan LOL)

Overall Thoughts:

  • Price: $49 CAD
  • Durability: It doesn't have the longest wear time - I would personally reach for this product only when I know that I'd be out for 4-5 hours max.
  • Skin Type: Highly recommend this product for those who have dry to combination oily skin (slightly oily). Those who have oily skin, best to skip out on this product because it doesn't have a whole lot of oil controlling properties. I personally will be using this more in the fall to winter vs summer.
  • Coverage: Medium to full, depends on how you layer it. You could use this as a concealer if you don't have any severe blemishes. Personally, I found the texture slick and hard to build with a buffing brush. If you want to build coverage, best to use a beauty blender.
  • Finish: Natural, glowy but not satin. Has a almost gel like texture (probably from snail mucus) and very moisturizing.
  • Smell: It has a light fragrance, almost like lavender but it disappears almost as soon as you apply it to your face.
  • Finally, having the broad-spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 50+ is a great bonus for those who are on the go and want a product that does it all - covers, protects and conceals!

Rating: 8/10

Tips for picking your shade:
  • Fair: NC15-20
  • Light: NC20-25
  • Medium: Nc 30-35
PROS:
  • Wide color range
  • Skin care infused
  • Comes with a pump
  • Easy to Travel with
  • Moisturizing
  • Sunscreen SPF 50 + UVA/UVB
  • Doesn't strip my skin
  • Medium buildable coverage
CONS:
  • Not very good oil control
  • Claims to be concealer as well - wouldn't use as one unless I have minor blemishes
  • Price: $49 CAD - pretty pricy for a CC Cream. For that price you can find similar products (ex: Missha  M Perfect Cover BB Cream, much cheaper but not as many skincare benefits, colors, but better oil control)

Makeup | Laneige 2 Tone Lip Bar in #3 Pink Salmon Review

10:12 Jayyangg 2 Comments

Laneige makes a bunch of beautiful shades in the 2 Tone Lip Bar Series. The one I will be reviewing today is the #3 Pink Salmon (~$30 CAD) . Koreans love doing a gradient lip as an opaque one color lip look can make you look older. Gradient lips are said to create a more youthful look and have spread around the world. This product is readily available at Sephora in store and online. Continue reading for swatches and lip swatches!

(Bare Lips)
(Applied)
(Blended out with fingers to smooth out the lines) You can clearly see which part of my lips are dry D:
(Mixed all together)

Blended together the shades appear to be a slightly neon salmon shade. Although it can appear more pink or orange depending on which shade you apply more of!

Overal Review:

Laneige's 2 tone lip bars come in a variety of shades which are all very flatting on Asian complexions. My only issue with this product is that for $30 CAD - this product wasn't very moisturizing and really emphasized dry lips. As you can see in the photo it does have a shine - but you can also clearly see where my lips were dry. You would really have to use a lip scrub before this or apply a lip balm underneath. Additionally, the packaging isn't very well made. After the first time using it, when I pushed the lever to bring the product back down - it didn't move. I now have to physically push it down with my lips or finger. I do really love the color (very brightening to the face!) but it simply doesn't feel like its worth the price.

Rating: 2.5/5
Repurchase? - No

PROS:
  • Color is very beautiful
CONS:
  • Drying
  • Emphasizes dry patches
  • Price
  • Packaging isn't made very well
